There's something alluring about old brushes - this collection was collected by Appley over the last year or so - she gathers them in her travels around France, Spain and Italy. They are not exactly antique but are pre-used and pre-loved and who knows perhaps they were used to create a masterpiece or two....
Some are simple house painters` brushes - some are for special effects on furniture and walls and others are artists' brushes - they come in all shapes and sizes and the bristles vary in colour from black to a lovely camel colour. "Collections of very simple, utilitarian things have always fascinated me" says Appley..."and I love to see them displayed 'en masse'.
