A new book by Josephine Ryan has just been published and is an interesting look at the homes of some of the antique dealers who either live in France or who deal in French antiques.

Included is the wonderful 18th century old wine and eau de vie factory in the south of France that Appley Hoare has recently finished restoring.

The book is full of charming vignettes of individual pieces and collections that these dealers guard for themselves and shows the environment that they have created for their own pleasure.

Brush Prints

These prints come from a French catalogue depicting artists` materials from the early 20th century when Paris was the epicentre for young artists from around the world.  They came to study and wallow in the renowned atmosphere of the `Rive Gauche` - indeed the `rue de Seine` is printed on one of these prints as the supplier of thesse artists` brushes, now it is a chic street leading to Le Pont des Arts with many Galleries and smart shops.

This set of 5 prints show the various types of brushes, palette knives and combs available for oil painting, water colours, sculpting and special effects on funiture.  Most of the items seen in these prints would still be around today in one form or another but it is the way in which tese catalogues were laid out that make these replicas so decorative and appealing.  Framed with burr walnut moulings these prints will fit into many decoraing styles and make both interesting and decorative features for walls in different rooms in the house
